Council Matters - Parish Council Working Parties

Working Parties

The Council divides up the matters it is responsible for into different sections and appoints Working Parties to oversee the matters. These Working Parties meet to discuss any problems, usually at the site of the matter.

The Working Parties are as follows :-

Common & Woodland - D Hamer, (Chairman), J Harris, P Hilton and A Begley

Chesham Bois Common is owned by the Parish Council and this working party oversees the management of the area. The commons’ boundaries extend to Chestnut Lane, South Road, Copperkins Lane, both sides of the A416 to just before The Leys and up to The Limes. The duties includes writing the two year management plan for the Common including the pond, submitting the plan for CDC approval and are responsible for its implementation. Issuing tenders for the parish mowing schedules for grass cutting during the year (which includes cutting of grass verges in the village which the Parish Council has taken over from Bucks County Council) and monitoring progress during the year. Responding to reports of fallen or dangerous trees or branches in the parish, as they arrive and determining the best method of clearance. Some of the work on the Common is undertaken by members of the Working Party with the help of other members of the Council and willing villagers. More extensive work is carried out under tenders by contractors appointed by the Council. They also manage a small area of The Grove.

Planning - J Harris, (Chairman), L Curtis, J Kirchheimer, R Thorndike

Although Chiltern District Council make the final decision on planning applications the Parish Council can comment on all applications and will support local residents in objections or applications if they feel it is right for the area.

Minutes of Planning Committee Meetings are now published on this website.

Transport - R Thorndike, (Chairman), D Eldridge, L Forster

This working group of the parish council is concerned with movement in and around the parish. It provides a representative to sit on the Chiltern Local committee of the County Council where decisions are taken about the funding of projects to improve roads, traffic flow and safety. Any suggestions for improvements needed in the parish will be gratefully received, given due consideration and if appropriate included on the local committee 'wish list' The working group also takes an interest in public transport needs in the village; representations were made after the redirection of the 336 bus route- a decision taken without any consultation with the parish council. The working group takes responsibility for monitoring the state of the public footpaths and reports any work required to the County Council. Minor works such as undergrowth clearance are often arranged directly with volunteers from the Chiltern Society. The working group also makes recommendations to the Parish Council if it feels a financial contribution towards items such as kissing gates to replace stiles would benefit the residents. Street lighting also comes under this remit. The council has started on a review of the condition of lighting columns in the parish and also looks at requests for additional lighting. Any lights seen to be out of order should be reported to the Parish Council.

Chapel & Burial Ground -  J Kirchheimer (Chairman), P Hilton and Dr M Smith

This group oversees the Burial Ground and Chapel just off Bois Moor Road which are owned by the Parish Council. Maintenance of the chapel and burial ground are in the remit if this group.
