The Village - Local ChurchesSAINT LEONARD'S CHURCH (Anglican)
The oldest part of St Leonard's, the chancel, was probably built in the late 1100s as the private chapel of the de Bois family, with the first known priest being dated at 1216. The nave was added in the 14th century and a bell tower in the 17th. The present tower, however, was built in 1884. The Rectory is some distance away, in Glebe Way, and was built in 1983 when the adjacent Old Rectory was sold. The church has a strong evangelical tradition. Photo is circa 1900.

THE CHURCH OF OUR LADY (Roman Catholic)
The Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour (generally known as Our Lady's), was built in 1915 and extended in 1953, with the presbytery being built in 1924. Brick built, it comprises a nave and chancel. In the ceiling there is a series of paintings depicting the Way of the Cross, painted by a previous incumbent and based on the 15th century painting in the Redemptionist Church of St Alfonso in Rome. Weekday Mass times (Mond. - Frid.) have to be altered occasionally.
